Import KML or Shapefile datasets—like easements, utility lines, or custom study areas—directly into MapWise and toggle them just like any built-in layer.
Watch the video, then follow the steps below to try it yourself.
1. Download or Prepare Your File
Obtain a .kml (recommended for speed) or the component files of a Shapefile from your GIS source. Example: Cape Coral easements from Cape GIS.
2. Open the Layer Manager
In the Map Viewer, click the Layer Manager tab (top-left of the sidebar).
Select Add New Map Layer.
3. Upload & Configure
Give the layer a descriptive Name (e.g. Easements Cape Coral).
Choose the File Type (KML or Shapefile) and Select File.
Pick a Group (e.g. Custom Layers) so it’s easy to find later.
Set Permissions: Private, Company, or Public.
Optionally add comments or scale range, then click Save Changes.
4. Add Layer & View Results
Locate your new layer in the alphabetical list (or use search) and click Add Layer.
The layer appears under Custom Layers in the sidebar. Toggle it on to display features.
Zoom in and click features to inspect attributes—perfect for analysis or presentations.
