Layer Manager

The Layer Manager lets you add dozens of extra MapWise layers—or even upload your own KML / Shapefiles—without leaving the Map Viewer.

Watch the short video above, then follow the step-by-step guides below.

Add Extra MapWise Layers

  1. Open the Layer Manager tab at the top of the sidebar.
  2. Browse the numbered list or search to locate a dataset (e.g. #14 Big Box Stores).
  3. Click Add Layer. The dataset appears in your Layer list and on the map.
  4. Toggle visibility or remove it at any time using Remove Layer.

Tip: Highlight retailers such as Walmart, Lowe’s, or Target for site-selection presentations.

Default Layers

Some popular datasets—such as Wastewater & Drinking Water Source or Environmental Resource Permits—are pre-loaded and may already show Remove Layer in the list. These were added because most MapWise users find them helpful.

Upload Your Own Map Layer

  1. In the Layer Manager, click Add New Map Layer.
  2. Select Shapefile or KML, give the layer a descriptive title, then choose your file.
  3. Pick Private if you don’t want other users to see it.
  4. Click Upload. The layer will appear in your list—ready to toggle on and off like any other.

Have trouble with a large or unusual dataset? Send it to us—we’ll convert & host it for you.
