Highways

The Highways FDOT layer shows every major roadway the state of Florida maintains, from interstates to toll roads to US, state, and county highway systems. It is the road network that every mapping application uses as its baseline, because it is produced and kept current by the agency that actually manages those roads.

Each highway segment carries its Florida Department of Transportation Roadway Characteristics Inventory code, route number, local name, and the milepoints that mark where the segment begins and ends. Interstate, US, state, and county segments are classified by rank so primary routes can be styled differently from secondary connectors. Toll road segments are separately tagged and flagged for Florida's Turnpike system so tolling and cartographic treatment match the physical facility.

Developers and site selectors screen parcels by access to interstates and primary arterials before ordering title work. Coverage and accuracy

The layer covers the entire state of Florida and is refreshed semi-annually by the Florida Department of Transportation as routes are added, rerouted, or transferred between jurisdictions. Source mapping is at approximately 1:24,000 with horizontal accuracy of roughly plus or minus 40 feet, appropriate for statewide and regional mapping.
